Thoth 0.3.1: switch the log off, and feedback that does not linger

Thoth 0.3.1 lets you switch off the small log of errors that 0.3.0 added for problem reports, and deletes it when you do. Servers also stop keeping your feedback for ever.

A switch for the log

Settings → Help and feedback has a new switch, "Keep an app log on this computer". It is on by default, so a problem report can still include the log when you want it to.

Turn it off and the app stops writing the log and deletes the one it kept. "Include recent app log" then has nothing to send. Turn it back on and a new, empty log starts.

Feedback is deleted after 90 days

Servers now delete feedback 90 days after it arrives, along with any app log that came with it. The demo server does this, and so does your own server once you update it to 0.3.1.

Ninety days is enough time to read a report and fix what it describes. After that, there is no reason to keep it.

How to get it

From 0.2.3, click Update when the app tells you 0.3.1 is out. From 0.2.2 or older, install it from the download section. The changelog lists every change.

Questions

Is the log on after I update?

Yes, it stays on unless you turn it off. It never leaves your computer unless you tick "Include recent app log" and send a report.

I run my own server. Do I need to do anything?

Update it to 0.3.1. The daily maintenance command from the self-hosting guide then deletes feedback older than 90 days, including feedback that arrived before the update.
