Two stone plinths hold rows of blank paper pages as a couple of pages glide between them beneath an arch framing an orange sunrise.

Thoth 0.2.1: thothnotes.com, split view and moving between workspaces

Thoth 0.2.1 has a new home at thothnotes.com. It adds split view, a Home tab, copy and move between two workspaces, Welcome pages with a short tour for new Private Spaces, and a way to send us feedback from the app or the website.

A new address

The website, the web app, the demo server and the downloads are now at thothnotes.com. The old addresses keep working and lead there.

The desktop app has a new app ID, com.thothnotes.desktop. The first time 0.2.1 starts, it moves your recent Private Spaces, settings, sign-ins and assistant history over by itself.

On macOS and Windows, open tabs and the sidebar’s order start fresh once, and macOS asks again about notifications and opening the app. If you use Connected apps, copy the setup again from Settings → Connected apps.

Split view

Show two pages side by side, each pane with its own tabs. Drag a tab to the right edge of the window, or choose Split right (Cmd/Ctrl+Alt/Option+). It works in the desktop app and on the web.

Home and more room to write

The Home tab lists your recent pages and favorites. Open it with the logo, the Home button in the tab bar, or Alt/Option+Shift+H.

Press Cmd/Ctrl+\ to hide the whole sidebar and give the page the full window. Thoth remembers it for each Private Space.

Copy and move between workspaces

Copy or move pages from one workspace to another, on the same server or a different one. Use the page’s menu, the button in its header, the command palette, or drag the page onto the other workspace.

Sub-pages, attachments and the links between the pages go with them. A move deletes the originals only after the other workspace has every page.

A first run that shows the way

A new, empty Private Space now starts with Welcome pages instead of a blank page. They show every kind of block and link, and the main keyboard shortcuts for your computer.

A short tour of the basic tools follows. Skip it any time, and see it again from Settings → Getting started.

Send feedback

Report a problem, suggest an idea or ask a question from Settings → Help and feedback or the command palette, or from the new Support page. Your email address is optional, and nothing from your pages is sent.

Smaller changes

  • Show in Finder or File Explorer for a page or folder in your Private Space.
  • An Import button in the sidebar and the command palette.
  • Breadcrumbs above a page that you can click.
  • Copy or move between spaces from the right-click menu, and a Share… button in a workspace page’s header.
  • Settings lists its sections beside the page.

What was fixed

On Windows, an Obsidian vault or Private Space on a USB stick, SD card or other FAT32 or exFAT drive opens again.

Right-click menus stay inside the window, a drag cancelled with Escape no longer opens the tab, and the highlight and selected rows are easier to see.

How to get it

Get the newest version from the download section. The changelog lists every change.

Questions

Do I lose my notes with the new app ID?

No. Your notes are files in your Private Space folders, and they stay where they are. The app moves its own settings and sign-ins once, and only tabs and the sidebar’s order start fresh on macOS and Windows.

What does Send feedback send?

What you type, the kind you picked, and your email address if you gave one. If you leave “Include the app version and system” on, it adds the app version, your system and the app’s language. Never page text, titles or file names.
